What we do today will affect us tomorrow. The decisions we make today will generate results and it may have a huge impact on us in the future. Will it be a good choice or will it be a bad choice? Temptation is just like going to the beach with high current and wanting to go further and further to the bigger waves. As you go farther from the shore, the waves are larger and more powerful. As the wave makes its impact on you, it may knock you down and cause you to stumble beneath the water. So you get up and laugh with friends and families. So, you want more and you are tempted to go farther from the shore. It may be fun at first until you hit a riptide and it surprises you. A riptide will pull you away from the shore and drag you down beneath the surface. This may be a large impact in your life that you end up battling for many years; sexual immoral, drugs, alcohol, pornography, and so on. Then you realize that it became a problem and it’s taking over you. It's affecting your relationship with the people who are around you. It's affecting your job. As you can see, a riptide continues to pull you away and your instinct is to try to recover by getting your head above the water while swimming for the shore. However, you’re swimming against the water while the water draws back out to the sea. Consequently, you’re consuming a lot of energy and doing a lot of work, but not going to the direction that you wanted. As you are trying to fight it, another wave hits you. In this instance you’re just going through the motion and doing things all over again. You didn’t realize that you have drifted far from the shore and are feeling tired because you’ve been fighting it in your own strength. You’re worried because the sea is swallowing you. This sin in your life has become your Goliath. In life… we tried many things on our own and did a lot of motion but went nowhere. We tried to fight the trials and temptations in our own strength, but we ended up getting tired. It pulled us away and pulled us down. The riptides in life have captivated us and drowned us with our own battles. The sins and transgressions have taken us captive and we feel defeated. Our sins have swallowed us and have caused us to stumble. To my fellow Christ Followers, there are times when we feel distant from God or feeling as if we are drifting away from God. We are drifting away because the current of the raging sea. The sea represents the world, the water represents our life, and the current and waves represents the problems, issues, and temptations that we go through. Don’t let our circumstances overwhelm us because God is bigger than our problems; God is bigger than the waves. Let us put on a life vest of our life and the life vest we call Jesus Christ because He is our Lord and Savior! Let me encourage you that God never tempt anyone (James 1:13) and if you are tempted by our enemy, God will provide you a way out (1 Corinthians 10:13). “God will not give you something that goes beyond what you can bear” (1 Corinthians 10:13). God has your back and all you have to do is cast all your problems to God and He will take care of it (1 Peter 5:7). Do not worry and pray about your situations (Philippians 4:6). Don’t use the world’s wisdom to solve it because it will only lead you to a dead end. Don’t focus on the circumstances, but fix your eyes on Jesus (Hebrews 12:2).
