'Part 1: Being Watered
When we plant an orange seed, we need to make sure it’s done in good soil. To continue the process, we need to water it for the seed to develop. So, the seed will absorb the water and begin digesting available food and the energy it requires to resume growth. Along the way, the seed coat ruptures because of the absorption of water and the pressure of the expanding embryo, and then the seedling breaks through the ground. As it continues to mature, it will soon become the plant that we desired. However, we need to continue watering the plant for it to grow into a tree and produce oranges. The plant must be deeply rooted in the ground; otherwise, it will be blown away by the wind. In other words, the root anchors the plant’s body to the ground and supports it. In Ephesians 3:17, “Then Christ will make his home in your hearts as you trust in him. Your roots will grow down into God's love and keep you strong.” When we accept Jesus Christ as our Savior, He moves in into our heart. He becomes the ruler of our lives and our goal for each day is to become more like Him, think like Him, and talk like Him. For us to continue to be developed and be like Christ, we need to be watered. 1. Watered by the Word We need to digest it for us to resume growth. For us to resume growth, we need to experience God. And for us to experience God we need to have our quiet time with Him. Experiencing God is having intimacy with Him.
So the question we need to ask ourselves, “Are we experiencing God?” 2. Watered by Other Christ Followers It’s very important to connect with other Christ Followers, because they’re the ones who will pray for us, disciple us, encourage us, lift us up when we’re down, restore us, and comfort us—“As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another” (Proverbs 27:17). If the plant is not being watered continuously, it will only grow so far before it wither. Likewise, if we’re not reading our Bible, not praying, and there’s nobody in our lives to help us realign with God, we’ll drift away. As you can see, we are not made to do life alone. We are designed to connect with one another (1 Corinthians 12:18-26). So the questions we need to ask ourselves, are we connecting with other Christ Followers to help us grow? How many times in a month do we attend church and have fellowship with others? Do we have an accountability partner to ensure that we are being watered by the Word of God? Do we have someone in our lives to help us recalibrate our focus to God when we feel depleted spiritually? Part 2: Rooted in Christ As we are being watered and being developed, we’re becoming deeply rooted in Christ to keep us strong. It will give us stability and security. The root nourishes the plants to help them grow. Likewise, it is God’s love that sustains and satisfies us and provides spiritual strength under the power of the Holy Spirit! If we’re not deeply rooted in Christ, we’ll be blown away by the circumstances and the storms in our lives because we're lacking in the Word, lacking in our quiet time, and lacking trust in God. Let your roots grow down into him, and let your lives be built on him. Then your faith will grow strong in the truth you were taught, and you will overflow with thankfulness (Colossians 2:7). We want to be at a point where we don’t have to be anxious about our situations and circumstances in life because we know that God is in Control. We want to be able to express, “In you, Lord my God, I put my trust (Psalm 25:1).” As you can see, He wants us to give our problems and our issues to Him because He cares for us. It’s His words and it’s His promise. Jesus gives us peace. We want to be in a point that no matter what we are facing in life, we are thanking God. "All things work together for the good to those who love God and are called according to His purpose" (Romans 8:28).
They are like trees planted along a riverbank, with roots that reach deep into the water. Such trees are not bothered by the heat or worried by long months of drought. Their leaves stay green, and they never stop producing fruit (Jeremiah 17:8). When we are rooted in Christ and experience God, we will not be bothered by the heat. In other words, when we are being scrutinize, being insulted, or being hated upon, we want to be at a point that we stay in spirit and brush it off like it was nothing. Instead of reacting to the situations in flesh, we take it up to the Lord and pray for that person! When we are being persecuted, we need to be able look up in Heaven and say, “Forgive them Father for they do not know what they’re doing.”
