Life is so uncertain and we don't know what's ahead of us. Our mind is limited on what we can think or see; however, God is all knowing. God can guide us and direct our lives, but often times our pride gets in the way and we hold on to our stirring wheel longer than we need to. We choose the roads that we want to take, but our vision on the road ahead can only be seen so far. As you can see, when travelling on the road, the visibility of the road can be challenging and especially when it’s foggy, driving through a severe rain storm, driving on block ice during winter time and so on. The road is dangerous because it can be slippery, rough, and even bumpy. The conditions can cause us to drive off the side of the road. When we’re placed in that situation, we turn on our emergency light on. Then inside our glove compartment, we pull out our AAA card and call the number.
A lot of us Christians live the way we want to live and pull out the AAA card when we have an emergency and then call God to bail us out of our situations. Many of us Christians only pray when times are tough! Our prayer life should be constant, talk to God when things are good, when things are bad, or even when things are calm. Many of us on the road end up taking the wrong turns or the wrong exits. So what we ended up doing is taking a detour, which takes us longer to get to our destination. God tells us to take certain paths, but many of us decide to take the wrong routes. We take different paths for various reasons; not listening to God, afraid to get out of our comfort zone, fearful, not trusting God, or we base it on our gut-feelings. Let us be filled with the Holy Spirit and He will guide us, direct us, and teach us. He is the truth! (1 John 2:27 NLT) Some people are just going along with the path and hopefully they can find something that's familiar to them. The world wants you to exit on the following roads: greed, lust, gluttony, wrath, envy, and of course pride. Some are still in cruise-control and hoping for the best and this is called laziness. Consequently, they keep running into dead ends (Proverbs 14:12). So they keep re-routing and detouring and yet are unable to find the path that will lead them to a fulfilling life. Life is uncertain, but as Christ Followers we know our final destination and it’s not of this world. When I surrendered my life to Christ, I am made new. I am no longer the one who is in control and God is the one who is behind the stirring wheel. It's God the Holy Spirit who is driving and directing. Yes there are times when I can be stubborn and will not listen because I’m still human and battling with my old-self (Romans 7:14-20). Yes, there are times that I ended up elsewhere, but the good news is, God will never leave me nor forsake me. Jesus has won the victory for me and I know where I am heading when God says “It’s time to come home, son.” Today, if you’re not on God’s way and you've been on cruise control, it's time to take that route to God. Maybe you've been going from one exit to another and it wasn't taking you anywhere and then you realized that life is short on earth and blink of an eye---the final destination is nearby. Take this moment and follow the road to Jesus Highway and He will lead you to the truth, and the life... and you'll have peace, joy, and a fulfilling life.
